Open Choral Course: English Evensong with Ben England on August 24th, 2024, at Olari Church
Join us to sing gems of British sacred music in an international setting! Tapiola Chamber Choir, in collaboration with Olari Parish and Choir of the Earth, is organising an event to delve into the English Evensong tradition on August 24th, 2024. The full cost of the short course is 25 euros, with the possibility of a separate fee for sheet music.
Evensong is a musical evening prayer dating back to the Anglican Book of Common Prayer of 1549, for which British composers have produced a wealth of music. As part of the short course, you will have access to Choir of the Earth's online rehearsals and practice materials.
The course culminates in an onsite workshop at Olari Church on August 24 from 10 am to 4 pm, with international participants also gathering. At 5 pm, in collaboration with the Anglican congregation of St. Nicholas, there will be an Evensong service at Olari Church, and this will be streamed to the Choir of the Earth's online community.
The event is open to singers of all levels
Experienced singers from Tapiola Chamber Choir will serve as the core choir in the onsite workshop, but the event is marketed both domestically through Tapiola Chamber Choir and internationally through Choir of the Earth.
The event is open to singers of all levels. No audition tapes or resumes are required; your interest alone is sufficient. You will experience how pieces are rehearsed step by step and what it feels like to sing supported by a large group. Meanwhile, experienced choral singers can utilise practice materials as needed and focus on enjoying the international atmosphere and the expert exploration of the Evensong tradition. Both online rehearsals and onsite workshops will be conducted in English.
Ben England leads
The course will be led by Ben England, who has received various significant acknowledgments for his pioneering work as an online choir director. His 20 years of experience as a choir director and music educator ensure high-quality training during the course. Ben also creates a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere in his work. The full cost of the short course is 25 euros, with the possibility of a separate fee for sheet music. The quota for Finnish participants, filled on a first-come, first-served basis, is limited, so we advise you to secure your spot as soon as possible.
